If I Had The Time I Would...

Oh how many times have I spoken these words?  A gazillion perhaps?  As a mom, I always have a running list going in my head of things that absolutely have to get done during the day.

Feed the kids…check.

Make sure the baby is in clean diapers…check.

Make sure the kids get to school on time…check.

Remember to PICK THE KIDS UP at the end of the day…check (sometimes it’s a close one).

Clean the dishes, do laundry, pick up toys, run the kids to whatever sport they are playing at the time…and inevitably unclog a toilet or two.  And I never forget to get some play time and some loving time in with my boys.

But there is always a secondary list going on in my head.  There are things I would LOVE to do if I had 25 or 26 hours in a day verses 24.

● I would actually decorate my house.  We’ve been in this house for 4 years and I still have blank walls in all the rooms with the exception of the boys’ bedrooms and the dining room.

● I would strap on some protective gear and tackle the every growing miscellaneous clothing pile in my closet that I’m convinced was left by aliens from the planet Piles for Miles.

● I would clean and organize the office, which is currently named the indoor garage because of the all the random crap we’ve thrown in there.

● I’d organize my pantry.  Oh to be able to walk in there and actually find the thing that I’m looking for would be what heaven is made of.

● I would read more.  I love, love, LOVE to read.  But most nights I’m so tired that even if I try to read, I get through a page (if I’m lucky) before falling asleep only to wake up and forget what I have read so I have to go back and read the page again the next night.

● I would spend more time with my friends.  Go have coffee, chat, catch up with what’s going on in their lives, or maybe go for a spa treatment.  But it would definitely not be in the form of an email, facebook post, or text.  It would be face to face interaction.  I miss that!

I try to remind myself that the time will come (and probably much sooner then I’m ready for it too) when I will have more time.  When all the boys are in school there will be a few hours that I can devote to the secondary list.  But for right now, my time is theirs, and that’s as it should be.  But there are days like today, where I catch myself dreaming about just a few extra hours.

What would you do with an extra hour or two?

Hmmmmm, an extra hour? With an extra hour, I think I would crawl into bed with the remote, a glass of wine, and watch lifetime or a movie. Now if you give me a budget to work with, this could change. ;)

A book, a long bath & a glass of wine.
Shopping.
organizing closets.

Now where do I find this elusive hour?

Optimistic Mom,

As long as we're dreaming, why set a budget? The sky's the limit!

Krista,

Thanks so much for stopping by and commenting! I really appreciate it!

I don't know exactly where to find this extra hour, but I'm on the hunt.

Come and visit again soon!

Oh my house needs some decor love too! We manage to get the walls painted how we want but that's about it. Really need more stuff (and new furniture!).

With an extra hour or two, I'd probably scrapbook. Haven't done much lately since blogging took over my free time!

Melissa,

My house needs some SERIOUS decorating help! There are so many pieces I need. We are holding off on getting newer furniture for as long as we can. Buggy is only 13 months old and the destruction phase is just around the corner!

I admire all you scrapbookers. That's something I've never been able to get into. But they look so awesome!

Hope you come back and visit soon!

The kids become self-sufficient before you know it, then you'll be looking for more hobbies...that's a good thing, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it in the "you'll be so bored" way, I'm saying as "you'll get to do so much! It's awesome!" way!

Sandra,

I'm so honored that you stopped by my itty bitty blog. I constantly read (stalk really) your blog! So hello, and welcome!! :)

You're right! Even though my oldest is 8 and my baby is 13 months old the time will fly by so fast! I've just been in the "I haven't been able to go to the bathroom uninterrupted" stage for so long that it's hard to see that far into the future!

Hope you come and visit me again soon!!

If I had an extra hour I would want to take a nap but I know in reality I would probably end up doing stuff on the computer. I think I need another 9 hours in each day to accomplish all I want to.

Jessica,

Ohhhhh a nap!!! I could SO go for one of those today!! ZZZZZZZZZZZ!!!! 9 extra hours would be life changing wouldn't it?? Ahhhh dreams to dream!

Ahhh... An extra couple hours! That would be amazing. I would probably add to my to-do list most of the same things as you! I would also love a couple extra moments for just my husband and I to enjoy... Yet, in saying that, I am starting to remember that "the grass is always greener on the other side..." and I fear once I had those extra hours that I might just fill them with the same things I fill my 24-hour days with? Sometimes, the best thing for me to do I think is to not necessarily wish for more hours, but instead fill my hours that I do have with the things I wish for..? Great post!

Kate,

You are so right! I would probably fill it with whatever I'm doing to fill my days now. I try my best to be organized, but something always gets put on the back burner for one reason or another!

If I had an extra hour I would be in shock.

Stasha,

Thank you so very much for coming by and commenting! I truly appreciate it!

I can totally see myself going into shock as well. So the extra hour would be spent staring off into space with my jaw resting on the ground.

Hope you come back and visit again soon.

Natalie,

Welcome, and thank you for stopping by and commenting. I would kill to have a shut off switch on my brain. Oh the peace and quiet I would have. But I would have to find someone I completely trust to turn it back on when I was ready. Don't care to be a vegetable all the time!! :)
