The Only Girl’s Guilty Pleasures

Okay so my first time linking up to Stasha’s MondayListicles was so fun you know I just had to do it again…right?

This week is all about Guilty Pleasures.  And who doesn’t have those?  And even MORE important, how the heck do you narrow them down?

I did my very best today!  But if you really must know, I have more than ten.  These are just the things that help to keep my sanity in check!

It’s no secret that I’m totally outnumbered in my household.  I mean, its not even close.  The only girl in the house is me…with the exception of a furry four legged dog that goes outside to use the bathroom.  It is totally hard to relate to an animal that does a move that we call the “pretzel” to clean herself so I have to find other ways to keep my calmness, sanity, and not to mention my femininity.

So my guilty pleasures are simple things…but they are also the most infrequent things.

1)      Once in a blue moon I like to indulge in a bubble bath with candles and a glass of wine.  A locked bathroom door = perfection.

2)      I have a feminine flowery down comforter cover.  Because really…I have to look at Cars and Star Wars blankets (not to mention underwear) all day long….it’s nice to sleep under something pretty.

3)      Brownies.  Okay, enough said.  You can totally make these soft, chewy morsels of heaven as decadent as you want especially after a long day of dodging Nerf Darts…Just sayin’.

4)      When my husband knows I’ve had a rough day/week/month with the boys he surprises me with a Gift Certificate for a massage.  A MASSAGE people!  I swear they have to kick me out of the room each and every time that damn timer goes off.

5)      Silence.  I know, it’s oh so romantic huh?  But Silence is somewhat an indulgence in my house of boys.  And therefore receives the title of a guilty pleasure.  It’s so very rare, and when it happens the little minions angels are up to something.

6)      Every once in awhile I’ve had enough testosterone to make me think I myself am growing a “third leg” so I call up some of my girlfriends to beg them to go out to dinner with me.  Just me, my girls, dinner and a glass of wine.  What can be better than that?

7)      I can’t forget my Starbucks.  It’s a ridiculous amount of money to spend for a cup of coffee.  But at least 4 times a week I find myself forking over my money ever so happily for that lovely steamy cup of survival.  SO. WORTH. IT!

8)      There is at least one “chick show” I like to watch each week.  Grey’s Anatomy is a perfect example.

9)      WINE!  I simply cannot forget my wine.  Although I don’t know if it can technically make the list as I don’t feel a single bit guilty about it.  But nonetheless it is a HUGE pleasure of mine.

10)  Here we are at the end of the list and I have only one other guilty pleasure I can think of.  While it doesn’t fall into the category of simply it is totally a guilty pleasure in my book.  It’s my brand spanking not-even-24hours-old-yet new iPhone.  Did I REALLY need it? Nope.  But I REALLY wanted it so I forked over the obscene amount of money for the darn thing and you know what? This mommy….This only girl in the entire house….well, she couldn’t be happier.

Congrats on your new gadget! I am yet to take the plunge. Must be the only human in this galaxy that is surrounded by Macs and walks around with a berry.
Enough about me. Your list is one to live by. You had me at madly expensive coffee and silence! The massage one I am a little jealous and a lot happy for you!

Every single item on your list - a necessity, hence do away with the guilt, just allow yourself the pleasure ;)

#4 - uh, hello? Does he want to give a class for the other husbands out there?

I absolutely love #5!!! And #8 and #9.
Sometimes, I like to dress up and go walk around the mall checking out things I know I can't afford......but it is fun to dream, right?

Ha - as I was reading I was wondering if wine would make your list! I don't think you should feel guilty about drinking a glass of vino at all. I don't!
I did this post too but I had a real hard time coming up with guilty pleasures. I think I need to start indulging in Starbucks and massages :)

I love that you mentioned wine 3 times in your list LOL! I forgot about baths and massages, LOVE those too! I'm with you, my list could have been 100 items long :)

Love this list!! Grey's Anatomy is my favorite show too! It made my list as well! And you totally deserve those massages being the only girl in the house! Hats off to you :)

Love me some Grey's Anatomy! I have just two boys over here, but I get the absence of silence thing. I definitely enjoy it when it happens to come along! Great list! :)

MASSAGES. I think thats the guiltiest of guilty pleasures. It's my favorite thing ever! Love your list.

I am commenting here via my iPHone - a gift I just recently got and even more recently broke down and actually started using...

I am one of those who is comfortable with what I know and who moves slowly into new territory kicking and screaming. Which is why I also like wine.

Oh yeah. Your list works for me.

I would certainly love some Silence too as it can be too rowdy with the kids around at home.

I've never had a massage but I'd really like to get one!

I also love Grey's Anatomy and a nice hot cup of coffee from Starbucks!

Glad to hear you're loving your iPhone! Since we were talking apps, I'll share my faves: Nike Training Club for some motivation at the gym, Shazam for figuring out what song is playing on the radio and later downloading it, and Camera+ for taking some pretty awesome pics. There are also lots of great kid ones, but you're probably not ready to share yet.

Oh, and since it appears you share my love of brownies, I had to tell you about this brownie recipe I saw recently on Bakerella. You mix up a pack of brownie mix and smoothe it into the pan, then you put cookie dough in clumps right into the brownies and bake them together - how awesome does that sound??!! (If you're a purist, you could mix up your own brownie and cookie dough, but to make it super easy, you can use packaged mixes.) You can thank me later. ;)

I have a hard time imagining myself as the mother of sons so I hear your need for floral down comforters and girlie indulgences! My MIL had 5 boys + 1 husband and it really affected her - she lost her interest in fresh flowers and decor and replaced it with boy-centered things. Don't go there! Keep the floral comforter!! (-:
